Publishing a Book on Kindle
The hardest part of publishing a book sometimes is just getting started writing it. From my experience, having written and published books, patterns, and how to information guides the most important thing is having your book be interesting, make sense, and most of all be edited by someone who is able to check for grammar and spelling errors.
Writing the book won't make you rich and famous but there are different levels of success writers can obtain. The fiction market can be a challenging one to write for unless you can find an audience who will want to read a book by an unknown? While non-fiction books tend to do much better especially popular "how to" books on subjects people want to read about (i.e retirement, debt consolidation, crafts, health issues).
After writing your book one of the best places to publish a book is with Amazon Kindle. Start by reading all the information on http://www.dtp.amazon.com/ and find out what is required in order to publish a book. Below I have provided a couple of really good resource links to read about step-by-step publishing with Amazon Kindle.
The guides will provide you with information things you need to know before publishing like formatting a book, creating a cover for your book and other related items. Some quick things about formatting your book, Kindle does not always work well with PDF but books do upload well in Word, Html, or prc format. I would suggest watching the get started Video that Amazon provides.
Covers can be created in programs such as paint, MS Publisher, or saving an image as a jpeg. If your book has already been published as an ebook somewhere else on the Internet just download a copy of the book and save it in a format Amazon will accept. Then save the cover of the book as a jpeg before uploading to the site.
Publishing a book is just the first step in getting started selling books and information on Amazon Kindle. Marketing your books is one of the most important things to do in order to get people to buy your books. In the below text I will explain my marketing techniques for selling books and guides I have written and what to expect.

Getting Your Book Sold on Kindle
Most of use realize that writing and publishing a book won't make us rich and famous. You still have to actively market your book. I have known several writers who have enjoyed different rates of success.
If you only write and publish a book it is just like letting it sit on a shelf somewhere. You have to promote the book by any means possible.
An example is when eBay was new and just getting started I had written a short how to guide about selling on the site. I had self-published the book in print and provided a PDF copy also (before Kindle was available). At the time no one else had written any books about the subject. Having been an experienced seller I know a lot about this matter and was able to create a helpful resource. Also, I had an audience because there were several people who wanted to learn how to earn a living by selling on the site.
Some things I did in order to promote my book was to write articles on different sites about the book. Promote my book on my blog and Web site. I contacted local newspapers and radio stations and sent them a press release about the book. I joined forums and posted answers to questions about my books subject and found as many outlets as possible for selling it. The result is I made a profit and starting writing more books and guides.
I was interviewed for articles in the NY Times, Woman's World Weekly Magazine, Child's Magazine, a local newspaper and several online sources. This was all very exciting at the time. Now, I mainly promote myself through Internet articles, blogs, and forums because my subject matter of what I write has changed!
The point is that if you write be sure to market yourself! Amanda Hocking is one author who writes and sells books on Amazon Kindle and makes a couple million a year. While we all may not be able to make as much you can become successful if you find a niche, keep writing, and publish good quality material that people want to read about.
