Summer Fun Toys and Products for Dogs
The dog days of summer can be torture on a pet. Along with staying hydrated pets need ways to keep cool and still have fun.
There are many great ideas for keeping dogs cool including letting them stay inside where there is air conditioning or a fan, putting ice cubes in their water, and not taking them for walks unless it is a cool morning or evening walk.
Besides the every day ways to beat the heat there are also some fun products available for dogs. Below are some of the things we found on line.
An Ice lick dog toy is a fun way to freeze your dogs toys or treats. This keeps a dog cool as well as occupied trying to lick their way down to the item frozen inside. The toy comes with a stand so you can insert it into the lawn and let them lick away.
A Canine cooler dog bed is a water or fluid filled bed that keeps your dog cool. It is also great for senior dogs and dogs that have hip or joint problems.
Hydro Dog Toys gradually release water while dogs play. It is a fun way for dogs to stay cool and hydrated at the same time.
There are also cooling pads, cooling collars, bandanas, and many others.
A good way to find products is to check online reviews and see what is hot for summer or go to the local pet store and ask what items they have for sale related to summer fun for dogs.

More Ideas to Keep Your Dog Cool
Dogs are much less efficient cooling off than humans are. This makes them more likely to overheat in the summer sun. Even more when it is humid and during record hot days.
Dogs can suffer from over exhaustion, sunburn, dehydration and more just like we do. Their sweat glands are on their nose and the mouse pads of their paws.
Always keep fresh cool water available for your pet to drink. Changing the water and giving them fresh water is necessary especially during the summer months. If your dog is an outdoor dog bring them inside to a basement or cool place during the day. When they are outside provide a shaded area for them to rest in.
Most of all never leave your pet alone in a hot car. Parking in the shade or leaving the windows slightly open is just not enough. The car can reach dangerous temperatures within minutes. Although we may like to take pets every where with us it's best to leave them at home during the summer. Plus in many states it is against the law to leave a pet unattended in a vehicle.

I had no idea that dogs had "mouse pads"! :)
The dog lick sounds great. My dogs would love that.
Dogs need fun things for summer too. Great hub.
I use the cooling bandana for my "Clancey" in the summer. I keep it in the freezer and it's always ready for a walk in the sun. Great hub and rated Up, useful, interesting and of course, awesome. I am your newest fan!
I did not know that some of these products existed. Our little Pomeranian dog Skippy is an inside dog but for the breeds that spend most of their time outside, that ice lick would be a great item to have! Informative hub. Thanks!
Thank you, very good info for my poochie, Rocky!
These are great ideas. I have a hard plastic kiddie pool for my dog to play in when it's hot, but I think she'd also love an ice lick. And thanks for including the important reminder about dogs in hot cars.
