Yarn Bombing Crochet and Knit Graffiti
69Yarn Bombing
Yarn Bombing is the art of crocheting or knitting on city streets, around telephone poles, through wire fences, lamp posts, over old cars, and has been embraced by crochet and knitting artists of all ages.
Those who participate in Yarn Bombing create stunning works of art out of art and then donate them to public spaces as a part of yarn domination and trying to beautify the world with the art of yarn.
The artists who create these works of art do not set out to destroy but to make the world a better place with the beauty and vibrant colors of yarn. The kind of work if filled with joy, make a whimsical statement, and presents knitting and crochet in a whole new light. Informing others that their talent is not just for grandma's but a creative outlet for artists.
Anyone can participate in Yarn Bombing. You can participate individually or as a group and paint the world in a work of yarn art.

Yarn bombing has even made it to Hawaii. Our local knitting/crocheting/spinning group, Aloha Knitters, got permission to yarn bomb around a health food coop in Honolulu. If you'd like, I can give you a link to an article about it on the Aloha Knnitters' blog.
Rated up and interesting!
It's being called yarn storming here; the article includes a link to a nice set of Flickr photos:

Be sure to check out the links (pingbacks) at the end of the article for more info and updates. Enjoy!
That's incredible, I didn't know people did that!
I have never heard of this but I'm already imagining how I could use up all those little scraps and leftover skeins of yarn that I've accumulated over the years. My mom is an avid crocheter so I shared this on Facebook so she can share it with her group The Knitwits (some knit, some crochet). (Voted up as well).
Great concept, I would LOVE to create a chair like the one pictured. Thank you for sharing such an inspiring idea. Voted up and interesting.
Funny coincidence: This game I play on Facebook (Monster World) has "Woolen Weeks" right now, and you can actually buy cute little balls of yarn, trees, cats, etc., with yarn on them to put in your garden. xD Just thought I'd share.
I guess I need to learn to knit and crochet first. I love guerrilla art. Awesome hub!
I never heard of yarn bombing. Interesting! Great idea for wrapping a bike up for Xmas. Vote Up
This is so great, I will share on Facebook and Twitter.
How cool. I hadn't heard of this before but then I live in a rural area so I don't always know about city happenings.
This is so cool...I love the chair!
Love yarnbombing although I've never tried it. The apartment is just too much but what great work - I saw a little video on her and the speed in which she crochets is awesome.
Locally they'll be doing a yarn bomb on the library for National Library week - they put out a call for rectangles so I might actually participate in my first one. Not really tagging when it is so organized but I can still get a little yarn high off it.

I adore this! How long does it take to put something like that ON an object? It's made separately in another location obviously, but actually putting it on a tree still has to take time! Could you get in trouble for this? How do people pull it off so that BAM, people see it but nobody saw who did it?
